Our Story

We understand the challenges of caring for an aging loved one because we have lived through them ourselves. Family Buddies was born from the story of our founder Coco and her years caring for her mother. After a broken foot left her mother unable to walk, she suffered a second stroke and was later diagnosed with a progressive degenerative illness that made even the simplest daily activities difficult. Through every stage of her mother's decline, Coco carried the responsibility of caregiving largely on her own while balancing the demands of work and daily life.

Like so many families, Coco searched tirelessly for trustworthy support and compassionate care, only to discover how difficult and overwhelming the process could be. There was no organization like Family Buddies to help her. What she witnessed and endured firsthand was a process shrouded in opacity and wildly inconsistent in quality. She was left feeling exhausted, uncertain, and alone at a time when her mom most needed guidance and support.

That experience became the foundation for Family Buddies.

Coco created Family Buddies because seniors deserve compassion, dignity, companionship, and personalized attention. She also believes that family members deserve peace of mind knowing their loved ones are being cared for by someone who genuinely understands their needs.

Founded in 2026, Family Buddies was built with a mission to provide thoughtful oversight, companionship, and advocacy that help seniors feel comfortable, safe, and connected in the familiarity of their own homes. We believe aging or physical limitations should not automatically mean leaving home for institutional care, when compassionate support and meaningful human connection can often help seniors continue living independently and with dignity.

Programs We Support

We guide families through two key New York State programs that help elders receive the care they need while remaining in their community.

MLTC

MLTC Care Hours Appeal

For clients already enrolled in a Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) plan whose physical condition has changed and whose current care hours are no longer sufficient. We build a strong case and advocate on your behalf, first through internal appeal, then through a Fair Hearing with the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance if needed.

This program is for applicants who are already receiving normal care services but require additional hours due to a change in physical condition or declining mobility, yet the requested increase was not approved through standard or internal assessment, making a formal appeal necessary.

Who qualifies:Applicants currently using MLTC services whose condition has changed and requires a reasonable adjustment to care hours.

Timeline:Typically 1–3 months, depending on whether the case is resolved at the internal appeal stage or escalates to a NY State Fair Hearing.

24/7 CARE

24/7 Home Care Application

For clients who need full 24/7 in-home care so they can remain in their own home instead of transitioning to a nursing facility. Availability depends on current program openings, so contact us to discuss what options are open at this time.

This is for clients whose condition requires high-level or specialized support (such as limited mobility, advanced dementia, or other ongoing care needs), but who would rather continue living in their familiar home and community, staying close to family and friends and enjoying each day with comfort and independence.
